The BDS degree is awarded after successful completion of a five-year academic program, including a one-year compulsory internship. It prepares students to practice as qualified dentists, capable of diagnosing, preventing, and treating dental and oral health conditions. BDS graduates play a crucial role in managing dental diseases and promoting oral health. The program is regulated by the Dental Council of India and is one of the most sought-after courses in the medical stream after 12th. It demands dedication, focus, and a passion for serving patients through ethical and skilled dental care.
No candidate shall be admitted to the BDS course unless they have passed a qualifying examination equivalent to 10+2 (Senior Secondary or Indian School Certificate Examination) after 12 years of study. The last two years must include Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as core subjects, with English as a compulsory subject.

Graduates can become general dental practitioners, pursue MDS in specializations, work in public health sectors, join academics or research, or establish their own clinics.
